1 Should be better

If the unit worked reliably it would be good. It replaced an eight year old Electrolux Icon induction cooktop that was very good until it started having problems. The quoted cost to repair exceeded 60% the cost to replace. The updates to the new model looked to justify the cost to replace. But I am still waiting on repairs to the new cooktop. It will sometimes not respond to touch input so I have to reset the unit. The first Electrolux repairman didn’t know much about induction cooktop function so I sent him away. The second repairman was very knowledgeable, talked with someone and they decided that two parts needed to be replaced. I am still waiting for the repairman to come, first appointment was rescheduled without any notifications.

5 21st Cooking

If you are redoing your kitchen or want a simple cooktop upgrade I highly recommend the Electrolux all induction cooktop. This sleek knob free cooktop is gorgeous with its aluminum perimeter. The precision cooking of induction at your fingerprints with the speed when necessary, for example, boiling a cup of hot water faster than a microwave.

3 2nd Electrolux Induction Cooktop

Our first Electrolux induction cooktop was my favorite part of a large kitchen remodel in 2008. It was model e36ic80iss1 & troublefree until late 2021. Unfortunately, repair parts weren't available without a long delay & we wanted to minimize our time without a cooktop. There are many other brands & models available, but when I found an Electrolux that appeared equivalent to our prior unit, that made the purchase decision easy._x000D_ _x000D_ The new induction cooktop is model ecci3668as. It was a drop in replacement for our prior cooktop, and is slightly less deep than the prior. The controls for the elements are very responsive & easy to use. Unfortunately, I can't think of any other advantages above our prior Electrolux induction cooktop._x000D_ _x000D_ The things that we feel are significant weaknesses of this new model ecci3668as are:_x000D_ 1) The biggest issue we see is with the heating elements themselves. As tested with flour in pans & an IR thermometer, the heating elements are apparently smaller than our prior. Using the same pans, we find hot spots in the center and very cool temperatures more than 3inches from the center of any pan. I'm used to having to preheat a pan for less than 3min, now it takes over 7min and I still see a strong temperature gradient from the center to the edge of the pan._x000D_ _x000D_ 2) Another significant shortcoming is that the center of the actual heating elements does not align with the center of the indication on the visible glass surface; offsets are inconsenstent on each burner_x000D_ _x000D_ 3) The timer in the cooktop was a feature I really loved on our prior unit, but the controls make this one almost unuseable. The timer in this cooktop is almost useless. It is easy to turn-on, but almost impossible to set & turns itself off quickly. It's very frustrating and in 4weeks I think I've managed to actually set the timer on fewer than 4 occasions. Once it's set, I've never been able to add or subtract any time to adjust. Turning it off & hoping to set a new time are the only apparent options. _x000D_ _x000D_ 4) The cooktop itself has a more shiny finish and shows any mess much more clearly as a result. The very glossy finish also makes it difficult to see the location of the controls._x000D_ 5) The cooling fans are much more audible than the previous model. (We placed the new cooktop in the same location with no modifications at all from our prior cooktop, so this fan noise assessment is not affected by any physical environment changes.) The old one's fans might have not been active enough, but the difference here is noticeable by visitors sitting 8feet away from the cooktop._x000D_ _x000D_ My conclusion is that based on our observations we can't recommend the ecci3668as cooktop to friends. I hope it lasts a long time, but we're having a difficult time adjusting to to smaller than expected heating elements & their offsets from indicated locations along with the very frustrating built-in timer. This cooktop does not seem to merit its premium price. If you've got an older Electrolux induction cooktop, wait for repair parts rather than replacing it with a newer model._x000D_ _x000D_ I've never posted a negative review on a product before. I design & test very high-end electronic equipment. The issues I'm expressing are not those of a technophobe. I'm disappointed with the quality & performance of this purchase & hope my observations might improve Electrolux products in the future and prevent other customers' frustration.

1 Disappointed

Removed a Thermidor gas cooktop because it didn't have any large burners. Bought this 36” Electrolux since it appears to have 2 large burners and a bridge. Actually the Electrolux has 2 small burners and 3 tiny burners and no bridge. The largest (2 small) burners are a mere 6 inches edge to edge and the so called bridge is actually just 2 tiny (5 inches) burners that turn on simultaneously as can be seen in the photos of the griddle. In the marketing photos it appears the burner lines are the size of the burners, but they are not. Where the lines break, have a small opening (see photos), is the actual size of the burner. As such, if you use 10” pans this cooktop (as was the Thermidor) is essentially useless as it only heats the center of the pan. Creating cooked centers and uncooked edges, or burned centers and cooked edges, whichever you prefer. The cooktop does look good and is easy to use and clean, but what good is that if it doesn't/cannot do the job. Wish I would have bought the cheaper GE cooktop that actually does have large burners.

5 Excellent cooktop!

Cooks evenly, bridge feature comes in handy with larger skillets. Smooth surface and easy controls. Need to be aware of the auto lock feature every time you turn it on. Also the auto shut off when spills occur is a nice safety feature. Truly enjoy this cooktop!

This cooktop is very responsive when changing temperatures. It heats up quickly and maintains an even temperature. Once you unlock it, the controls are easy to use. Love the feature that shows you which control to use, based on placement of the pan. It looks beautiful and is easy to clean. My concern is with the size of the cooking areas. The heating area for “large” pans is actually quite small. If I use a 12” All Clad sauté pan the heat is very concentrated in a small area. When I turn up the heat level the center burns while food at the edges of the pan barely cooks. I’ve used these pans on other cooktops and this does not happen. It’s almost impossible to use the smallest burner while using a large pan next to it. A different layout of the heating elements would be an improvement. The larger burners, even on high, don’t seem to get as hot as my old electric cooktop. Making French fries the old fashioned way seems to take forever. If you take a pan off the heat for a few seconds the unit turns off which is a good safety feature, but, you have to wait about a minute to unlock it again to continue cooking. I’ve cooked for many years on a regular electric cooktop so I am still learning the ins and outs of induction. I haven’t received my electric bill since I’ve started using it, I’m hoping there won’t be a big surprise.
